The Playground
Our adventure playground has been at the heart of the local community for over 4 decades ...
… designed and built by members of the local community, the playground is well used, loved and cared for and holds fond memories for generations of families.
The playground is open access, which means it is open for public use 365 days of the year. In addition to this, our team of highly skilled Playworkers supervise the playground after school and during all school holidays and provide a fantastic range of different activities to get involved in – karaoke, face painting, bingo and kirby are some of our favourite things !
At all of our play sessions there are lots of things to do – you can play with the bikes and scooters, make a mess with the outdoor play kitchen, play football, basketball or tennis and just generally run around and enjoy playing outside in the fresh air. Inside the Play Hut you can get involved with various art and craft activities – we have lots of resources to spark your creativity.
The Venture welcomes everyone to come and play. It is a really friendly place and you can always be sure of a warm welcome.
Here is some useful information about our play sessions:
-
Open Access
We are an open access playground which means we are not responsible for keeping children at the playground and are not responsible for them if they leave.
-
Age Range
Our activities target 5 - 16 year olds. Under 5's are welcome but should be accompanied by a parent or carer. Families are more than welcome to come and join in with play.
-
Free
Our activities are free - there is no charge !
-
Messy Play
When playing at the Venture children will get wet, hot, cold, smelly, muddy and dirty and so will need to wear appropriate clothing. It is better to wear old play clothes than ruin your best !
-
Refreshments
We provide drinking water at all play sessions along with free toast, lunch (at all day sessions) and fruit. We also have a tuck shop that provides low cost snacks e.g. sandwiches, yoghurt and ice cream. Hot drinks are available for parents and carers.
-
Behaviour
We expect everyone who comes to the Venture to behave reasonably. Although the playground is also a public park it is leased and managed by The Venture. This means that during our play sessions we are in control of the playground site and can ask those who break rules or are behaving unpleasantly to leave and not return for the rest of the play session. We ask that you return for a fresh start the next day.
-
Responsibility
The Playworkers encourage children to take responsibility for their own actions. We think this is good for them. They will be encouraged to sort out disagreements and conflict amongst themselves. However we will intervene if absolutely necessary.
-
Risk and Fun
The Venture believe that children need and want to take risks when they play. Our Playworkers aim to respond to these needs by offering children stimulating, challenging environments for exploring and developing their abilities. Our experience tells us that whilst children play outdoors they are likely to have accidents. We promote challenging play whilst trying to prevent children taking unacceptable risks. If this causes concern please come along and speak to us.
We want everyone who comes to the Venture to have a fun, positive time.
To help with this we ask all of our visitors, young and old, to:
Be Nice and Play Fair
This way everyone gets to enjoy their play time.
