The New Community Building
Over the last 10 years the Venture has broadened its work and has played an increasingly wider, whole community development role. The playground has acted as a ‘gateway’ – it is how people have formed relationships and engaged with us and how we have been able to identify the evolving needs in our community. This means we are now working with people of all ages, both in our local community and the wider ward, helping to address issues around family crisis, mental health and wellbeing, education and focused youth support.
In response to the need to support our community in a much more holistic way we have ambitious, community driven plans to redevelop our well loved adventure playground and indoor space into a sustainable, multi purpose hub that will provide a range of services and facilities for people of all ages. This includes a co designed outside play space, a multi use games area and a new community building.
How Does the future look?
Our plans for the Site
Planning permission was granted in November 2023 and we have a phased approach to developing the site.
Phase One is the new adventure playground and multi use games area and Phase Two is our new Community Centre building.
PHASE ONE - Adventure PLAYGROUND & MULTI USE GAMES AREA
The community have played a crucial role in the design of the new adventure playground. The design project began with a series of community meetings, where residents were invited to share their thoughts and ideas for the playground.
The final design combines traditional and non-traditional play equipment, helping to ensure that it meets the needs of children and young people of different ages for active and imaginative play.
The design also incorporates wheelchair-friendly paths to ensure that people of all abilities can navigate the space and enjoy the area with ease.
The addition of a multi use games area provides a designated space for sport.
PHASE TWO - COMMUNITY CENTRE
Our new building will be flexible, discrete in style and accessible and will be able to adapt to the needs of generations to come.
It will be highly energy efficient and a flagship example of sustainability and green technology for the region. It will be built to Passivhaus standards, which means a low ecological footprint. As such, it will deliver a low-cost and energy-efficient facility with lower ongoing running costs.
The plans include soft landscaping and tree planting around the car park area to soften the impact of the build on the local area and help create cleaner air to attract wildlife.
